Chapter Seven

“What is he doing?” Turner asked in a whisper.

Raven glared at him. “What part of silent didn’t you understand?” he answered in the same tone.

“It’s not like he can hear us,” Turner said.

“He will if you continue talking.”

Turner rolled his eyes but finally turned his attention back to the window they were watching.

The two of them were in skunk territory, spying on Rhodes. Raven had pointed out that Turner always mentioned his title when he talked about him, and that he wasn’t Turner’s alpha anymore. Turner hadn’t realized he was doing it, but now that he did, he’d stopped. Sometimes, he still had the habit of adding the alpha title to the name, but he was doing his best to stop. Rhodes didn’t deserve to be an alpha, and he didn’t deserve for anyone to respect him as such.

Turner had been surprised that Raven had changed his mind after their talk in the forest. They’d spent the rest of their time together kissing, and while Turner had loved it, he’d also realized how much of a distraction it was. Now that he and Raven were together—or at least he thought they were—he wanted nothing more than to spend all of his time with him. Thankfully, the fact that they were training together helped, but Turner spent entirely too much time staring at Raven instead of doing what he was expected to do.

He supposed it didn’t entirely matter. They were nowhere near ready to take care of Rhodes, which was why they were spying on him. He had time to be with Raven.

He’d guided Raven into skunk territory. He knew it well, having run around it since he was a child. Nothing had changed. However, he’d been relieved to see that the shed he’d been locked in was gone. He doubted Rhodes had been the one to get rid of it, so it had probably been Jasper, Rhodes’s son. He and Turner had never been close, but Turner respected him just a tiny bit more because of that. He hoped Jasper would be a better alpha than his father, but if he wasn’t, well, Turner supposed he’d have to take care of him, too.

Raven leaned closer, as if feeling that Turner’s thoughts were spinning out of control. Both of them were sitting in a tree, the thick branch sturdy enough to hold both their weight. Turner had wondered if they should shift, but Raven hadn’t wanted to. Turner supposed he didn’t want to be vulnerable and naked in enemy territory, and he wasn’t wrong. Rhodes would use anything he could to get rid of them if he saw them.

Turner had never wanted to come back. He’d known he would have to if he was planning on killing Rhodes, but he’d thought he’d have more time to wrap his mind around it.

Every time he heard something move, he jerked. He usually thought it was Rhodes, and when he didn’t, he wondered if it was one of his parents. He hadn’t seen
