Pillar 2: Permission

In the Psychological Model, we discussed the scope of informed consent. This model holds true across all of the work that we do, but it can’t address the layers and levels of permission and consent that we often stumble upon in the energy world. It can’t tell us what the boundaries are when we’re reading a person’s body or when we’re channeling a client’s ancestors for healing.

The Ethical Energetics Model holds that, in the energy world, permission happens on different levels. This is something that we can never approach flippantly or from a place of ego. We have to be absolutely sure we have permission. If we’re not absolutely sure, we don’t do it.

A Reiki practitioner who worked in hospital administration kept noticing that the energy in one four-bed hospital room on her floor had a negative presence in it. Patients who stayed in that room never fared well, and the nurses never liked to go in.

She knew that it was possible to improve the energy of the room using Reiki, but she wasn’t sure if she would be crossing an ethical line by doing the clearing without permission from the patients who were currently staying there. So she waited until a time when the room was briefly empty, approached her hospital administrator for permission to do it, and when the administrator agreed, she went into the room and did a blessing and clearing using Reiki symbols.

She immediately noticed a positive difference, as did the nurses, and new patients started faring well. The room was once again normal.

In the above example, many practitioners would have just gone ahead and done the Reiki without considering the implications around permission. This practitioner approached the situation perfectly.

The work we do in the energy realm has a direct and lasting impact on our three-dimensional world, because the energy realm is real. Consider our previous discussion about how energy can neither be created nor destroyed. This scientific principle demonstrates unequivocally that what we’re doing in the energy world matters. So getting permission to do what we’re doing also matters.

Let’s think of it this way: We can observe this scientific principle best with water. We know water mostly as a liquid, but it changes state, turning into ice or vapor with changes in temperature. It cannot, however, disappear. We may not be able to see the vapor or minute water droplets in the air, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. For us, we change state from a physical one to a nonphysical one when we die. We don’t just turn into nothing, because energy can’t do that. It can only change state. So we must continue to exist somewhere, in some form. Furthermore, it means that we also must have existed in some form, somewhere, before we became physical on this planet called Earth.

When we change state, we generally become invisible to the naked eye. But it doesn’t mean we’re not there. (I say “generally” because there are people like me who can see that energy realm just fine.
