LATIMUS SAT WITH KENDEN, Darkrip, Miranda and Sathan around the conference room table, discussing Crimeous.

“He isn’t even that harmed by a TEC,” Latimus said. “Although it means sudden death for any other Deamon, it maims him, but he survives. I’m struggling to see how we can get the upper hand here.”

Sathan stood, running his hand through his thick black hair as he did when he was frustrated. “We fucked up, letting him get so strong. None of us but Darkrip has anything near his abilities. Our physicality can’t match his capability to dematerialize and manipulate things with his mind. I’ll summon Etherya tonight and ask her council. Maybe she can enlighten me on something we’re missing.”

“There is one other who shares his powers,” Kenden said.

“She’s as evil as he is. I’d tread lightly.” Darkrip said.

“I know that what you say is true,” Miranda said, covering her brother’s hand with his, “but perhaps you and I can earn her sympathy toward our cause. We share her blood. Doesn’t that count for something?”

“Crimeous shares her blood too. Evie will never suppress her dark side as I have. She thrives on it.”

Miranda pursed her lips, her nostrils flaring. “We have to try. Having both of you combine your powers against him could possibly render him unable to dematerialize. Then, you could strike him down. Or Evie, if she’s the one the prophecy speaks of.”

“It will never happen. She’s lost to this world.”

Miranda stood and began to pace. “I saw our grandfather in the Passage when I was injured. He mentioned her and said that I needed to help her find her way.” Stopping, she looked down at Darkrip. “What is that, if not a divine message? I feel that I need to try.”

Darkrip shook his head. “I know that telling you not to do anything will make you want to do it more, so I’ll stop trying.”

Everyone in the room nodded and muttered in agreement, causing Miranda to scowl at them.

“But you all are missing a bigger point here,” Darkrip continued. “Now that you’re pregnant, it’s possible that your babe could also be the descendant of Valktor that kills my father. We have to consider that as well.”

Miranda placed her hand over her abdomen, lifting her gaze to Sathan’s. “We know. It’s terrifying for us. We hope to have you or Evie attack him with the Blade before the baby is born, so that we spare him that burden.”

Kenden smiled. “Do you know that it’s a boy then?” he asked.

She shook her head. “We don’t know yet, but I feel that it is. He’s a strong little man like his dad.”

Sathan walked over to her and placed his arm around her shoulders, drawing her into his side. “We need to do everything we can to kill Crimeous before the babe is born. I will summon the goddess. For now, everything else is on hold. I need you all to strategize as we work through this.”

Kenden stood, nodding. “I’ll be staying at Uteria for the next few weeks.
