Types of Disinfection Byproducts and Disinfection Residuals

Table 3.9 provides a list compiled by USEPA of DBPs and disinfection residuals that may be of health concern. The table includes both the disinfectant residuals and the specific byproducts produced by the disinfectants of interest in drinking water treatment. These contaminants of concern are grouped into four distinct categories and include disinfectant residuals, inorganic byproducts, organic oxidation byproducts, and halogenated organic byproducts.
