Conclusions

We have inevitably covered a great deal of ground in this chapter, moving from public understanding of entrepreneurs who experience dyslexia through the literature highlighting their role in society and the positive dyslexia movement that has identified the potential of so many individuals who experience dyslexia to adopt this approach in their life and careers, whether or not they are highly successful. I have taken you through a theoretical explanation for this pattern of processing and established that this can provide a causal explanation for entrepreneurism in individuals who experience dyslexia.

Finally, I have illustrated points in this chapter with accounts of some of the children and adults I have worked with, who have inspired my interest in this field, as well as introducing a phenomenally successful entrepreneur who experiences dyslexia. Let me take you back to Adam Neumann and his approach that was crafted so cleverly towards the burgeoning needs of young people, providing work, culture, home and schools appropriate for this time of austerity. The latest figures suggest that the WeWork approach pioneered by Neumann is struggling, with a drop in the value of the company and the ousting of Neumann for eccentric behaviour.

Despite this, given appropriate support, it seems to me that our entrepreneurs who experience dyslexia have the potential to solve so many of the problems that the younger generation is suffering from in an exciting and innovative fashion. Clearly, my colleague Rod Nicolson (2015) is a visionary in his call for businesses to recognise that the reasons for their success may lie with their entrepreneurs who experience dyslexia, and the key to greater success would be to employ more individuals who experience dyslexia.
