Atlas is gone before any of us wake the next morning.

Lex is still passed out when I pry my eyes open and immediately smell the sweet aroma of cooking coming from the kitchen. There’s also a lingering scent of coffee, which is what truly hauls my ass out of the rickety bed. I don’t bother putting on a shirt, walking down the creaky floored hallway in nothing but my boxers. I round the corner into the kitchen and lean against the wall, my lips curling into a faint smile as I watch Calla stirring pancake batter in a stainless steel mixing bowl. She drops a handful of chocolate chips into the batter and another handful into her mouth.

She’s so fucking sexy, I can’t take my eyes off her. I want to sneak up behind her and wrap my arms around her, pressing her against me. More than that, the desire to hoist her onto the counter and bury my head between her thighs sends a rush of heat straight to my cock.

Setting the bowl on the counter, she walks over to the stove and flips the pancakes already cooking in the pan, humming softly under her breath before turning toward the fridge. Her eyes land on me, and she yelps, her hand smacking against her chest in surprise.

“What the hell, Kade?” she grumbles, her heart still racing, and I certainly don’t miss the way her eyes linger on my bare chest.

I chuckle softly, pushing away from the wall and walking closer to her. “Good morning to you too.”

She rolls her eyes, and I half expect her to flip me off, but she just opens the fridge and proceeds to ignore me. Huh. Guess she wasn’t so overtaken by lust at the sight of my abs to not get annoyed with me for sneaking up on her.

“You should be in a better mood after last night,” I say, my voice laced with amusement. We all heard what she and Atlas got up to, and it took every ounce of self-control I have not to invite myself. Gabriel insisted that we leave the two of them alone—that they both needed it. Which, fine, whatever. But damn. I’ve only experienced the mastery that is Atlas York in bed on a handful of occasions. The tinge of jealousy was annoying as fuck.

“I’m fine,” she says, slamming the fridge door shut and setting the block of butter on the counter.

I hold my hands up in mock defense. “Easy. I’m only messing with you.”

“Yeah, well, for once, could you just not?”

The grin falls from my lips. “Hey.” I close the distance between us and turn her around to face me. “What’s going on?”

Her jaw clenches, her eyes flicking between mine. “Nothing,” she says flatly.

I hold her still when she tries to pull away. “Calla.”

“Kade,” she levels in a tight voice.

I sigh. “I’m worried about him too, but Atlas can take care of himself.”
