From the description of all parameters in the PLL, we know that the closed-loop transfer function of the PLL is well defined with just two unknown parameters; namely the gain K p of the phase detector and the gain K V of the VCO. Any deviations of these two parameters from the desired values need to be calibrated using automatic tuning circuits.
