The meeting was a disaster. I don't know what I expected, but I didn't feel better knowing that Dean couldn't keep up with my job. I thought that I would. It was a testament to how great I had been at my job that a man like Dean was unable to keep up. It really did seem like a good thing, but at the same time, I knew that it wasn't. It was only going to put Kyle and the rest of the pack in danger. I wasn't ready for that to be something that I was willing to accept. I wanted to be right. I wanted Dean to be wrong, but I didn't want it enough for something bad to happen. No matter how much I wanted it all to go the way I wanted, I still wanted my pack and my Alpha to be safe at the end of the day.

Dean had told me that I needed to grow up. At the time, it was probably the last thing that I wanted to hear, but now I understood why he said that. I was being ridiculous. I was trying to hold on to something that I thought I wanted, but I didn't want revenge enough to push everything out of the way that had mattered to me for so long.

Because I was interested in what had been going on, I talked to a couple people who I knew were on my side. They thought that I was getting information on Dean, to try and take my job back or something, but that wasn't it at all. I just wanted to follow the information, all of the things that he had said and reported in the last couple of weeks. At least half of my old clan would be on my side if I needed them to be.

What I learned was that Dean was thinking about what was going to happen next. He had actually set up a task force and from what I gathered, he was going to be taking an aggressive step very soon. From the sounds of it, they were ready to attack, or it just felt to me like he was rushing it. It didn't feel right. The people who were to go with him were not necessarily unloyal, but they weren't necessarily brave either. He needed the best the pack had to offer for what he was trying to pull off especially considering the small number of people needed for this mission. If he went ahead with his plan as is, I was terrified that it would all go horribly wrong and there would be unnecessary losses. It wasn't just Kyle I was worried about. I was worried about the rest of the pack, not just the leader.

I didn't want to do what I knew I had to do. I had to go see Dean and it couldn't be in front of everybody while he was trying to leave, it needed to be when it was just me and him.
