MONEY

GETTING STARTED

Watch DVD session 4.

AFTER THE VIDEO

The love of money can often creep into our hearts until it becomes the ultimate focus of life. Whether we live in severe poverty or abundant wealth, money can become a ruling force and the most tyrannical idol we choose to serve. One of Jesus’ most popular teaching topics was money.

The idolatry of money is not only the love of money but the excessive anxiety over it.

None of us are safe from the temptation of trying to find peace and security by placing our trust in the power of money instead of the power of God. If money could buy peace, the wealthiest among us would enjoy continual, never-ending peace. Look around you. Is that the case?

Because we have bought into the lie that more money equals more peace, we are on a continual quest for a bit more money. But when our supply increases, we still need just a bit more. Whether blue-collar worker, jet-set tycoon, or victim of utter poverty, the quest is often the same: just a little bit more.

The problem is we end up seeking money instead of peace. There is zero correlation between money and true peace. Even while eating dirt cookies in a ragged tent, the Indian family in the video knew true peace. They possessed more than money could possibly buy. They knew peace is not found in dollar signs but in the sign of the cross.
