9.7 PRINCIPLES GOVERNING INTERPRETATION OF WATER TABLE

The fundamental law governing interpretation of water table slope is Darcy’s law. Using Meinzer permeability, coefficient is expressed as:

In the above expression, S is water table slope (sine θ); Q is volume of percolation measured in gallons or litres per day per square foot or metre. P is Meinzer coefficient of permeability. If hydraulic gradient, sin θ and quantity of discharge per unit square foot or square metre and known coefficient of permeability can be worked out.

The rate of percolation may be expressed in terms of linear velocity by the following equations:
