Operation of a NOT Gate using a Power MOSFET

Case 1: V1 = 5V

If V1 is high(5), the transistor M1 is turned ON. As a result a current starts to flow between the drain and the source terminals of the transistor. This leads to a drain current(ID) flowing through the resistor R1. Thus a drop of 5V occurs across the resistor R1 and the output voltage Vout becomes low(0). Fig 12.2 shows the schematic diagram of NOT Gate using MOSFET. The MOSFET used for the this simulation is BSB012N03LX3. As shown in Fig 12.3, this MOSFET can be selected by right clicking on the MOSFET symbol after placing it on the circuit schematic. Fig 12.4 shows Transient Analysis of the NOT Gate where we can clearly see that the output is constant at a value of about 0V.
