CHAPTER SIXTEEN

It was Paige standing there next to Natalie with the smoking gun.

“Shit!” Alex limped over.

“Michael!” Leon heard his steps shooting down the hall towards them.

“Move!” He ordered, gripping Alex and leading the girls down the hall.

Sure enough, several shots followed behind.

“You motherfuckers I’m gonna kill you all!”

Natalie almost ran into one of the bathrooms when Leon pulled her away; the last place he wanted to be was trapped like a rat in a place where there was nowhere to run. They turned the corner to circle back and head to the photography room. Leon knew they could hide in the tunnel.

They made it around the corner where Michael’s gruesome body was left and ran into the room. He told them to hide in the tunnel.

“You’re gonna fight him all by yourself?” Natalie asked, stopping him.

“I have to draw his attention away from here. I don’t want to put any of your lives in danger more than I have to.” He said, taking the gun from Paige. It wasn’t his revolver, but it would do.

“But you’re hurt.”

“I know.” He huffed. At this point, he feared he was reaching his limits. “If I don’t come back, see if you can escape using that tunnel.”

He left the class, much to Natalie’s protests, hoping the madman wouldn’t see him, and when He noticed that the coast was clear, he quickly got away. Now he needed to hunt him. Using Voodoo to track his scent, they followed him to the bathroom Natalie was going to run into.

Mickey was kicking open the stall doors, but his instincts were good because he fired when he saw Leon out of his peripheral.

Leon fired back, hoping that would distract him long enough to get close and disarm him. The smell of smoke filled the room and intensified with each shot. But they knew this couldn’t last forever.

It felt like an eternity under that firefight until, finally, one lucky shot hit its mark: His revolver fell out of the madman’s grip. But he charged at him before he fired another shot. His goal was to get the gun out of Leon’s grip, but there was no way Leon planned to fight over a gun. He tossed it, hearing it slide out of reach.

They were going to settle this with fists.

Leon punched him in the jaw, and he stumbled back, giving him enough time to swing a left cross into his face. He was strong, and Leon felt his knuckles bruising against his skin. The fight continued as they traded punches back-and-forth defending against each other’s blows while trying to land one of their own.

But both men were hurting and losing so much blood that they slipped on the floor.

Leon began gaining the upper hand on him by delivering several jabs and uppercuts. The byproduct of Rhode’s boxing lessons. Mickey was soon staggering, trying to keep his balance while attempting a counterattack. Taking the opportunity, Leon delivered a swift kick to Mickey’s stomach, knocking him back and gaining more distance between them.
