List your items
You are going to list your items as if they are sitting in your garage. However, know the rules! Some sites, like EBay, require that you disclose where an item is shipping from. If you are in Ohio, but your widget is going to ship from Hong Kong, you have to disclose that information to the consumer. (If you are shipping internationally, there is an additional fee for customs) List your items and make sure all the rules and fees have been taken into consideration. Here is what should happen. You list your item. The consumer buys the product and pays you. You then order the item from the manufacturer or distributor and pay them. (If you did it right you will pay them less than the customer paid you i.e. your profit) They ship the item to your customer. They provide you with shipping information and you update that information on the platform you used to sell it. You must be prompt in entering all tracking and shipping and attentive when corresponding. Customers are more apt to refer you to a friend or to leave a positive review if they felt you genuinely cared about their purchasing experience. Even if something went wrong, if you actively tried to make the transaction as effortless and pleasant as possible to the consumer, they will see you in a positive light. You must keep records of all your sales or purchases in which a Federal Tax ID Number was used. The government takes taxes very seriously. Respect the laws and rules of your tax id number and guard it carefully.
Do not drop the ball here. It is not a sale until it is in your consumer’s hands. Know what is happening with the order. Is it on backorder? Did it ship and how? Was it delivered? Have you followed up with a thank you?
Congratulations! You are now an E-Commerce, drop shipping guru!
