CHAPTER 7
“Wheeeeew! This is what I’m talking about.” Daryl said as he tossed a stack of money in the air and watched as the bills landed on the sofa. “I can’t believe that you wanted to stash this loot.” Daryl screamed those words at Cliff. “We on young nigga,” Daryl continued as he started to rummage through the money that was sure to pave their way out of the sudden hardship that had found them even though they weren’t looking for it.
“Why are you so excited? This chump change is just the beginning of our solution,” Cliff said. “We still have to juggle hard so that we can get back on our feet.”
“Nigga, I’m a hustler,” Daryl responded. “That money is going to get made. All we had to do is make it out of the bank and get money to a safe and the rest is history,” Daryl insisted. Cliff looked at Daryl with a hard stare. Daryl opened his eyes wide and smiled. “It’s the hard knock life for us,” Daryl started to sing a rap song by Jay-Z.
Cliff started laughing. “Man, you’re a fool.”
“Yeah! I may be a fool, but I’m a fool with enough moolah to cause a hurricane in this bitch.” Daryl responded.
From the looks of Daryl’s apartment Cliff wondered if Daryl ever invited a woman in. The one bedroom apartment was located in Southeast D.C. near Congress Heights. This was Cliff’s first time coming inside of Daryl’s apartment and from the looks of things he surely wasn’t missing anything special. Whenever they had any business to handle Daryl would meet up with Cliff or Cliff would beep his horn to let Daryl know that he was outside.
Although Cliff noticed how dingy Daryl’s apartment looked he also noticed how Daryl had neatly arranged everything. His collection of DVD’s were neatly stacked next to his flat screen television. The glass table that sat in front of his sofa revealed two neatly placed portrait frames with a picture of his sofa revealed two neatly placed portrait frames with a picture of him and his father in one and his mother, father, brother and him and the other one.
“I’m ready to do some shopping,” Daryl insisted.
Cliff looked at him and laughed. “That’s why the white man is always getting ahead. All we black folks think about is shopping for clothes, cars, and jewelry, while the white man shops for real estate, stocks, and mutual funds.”
Daryl smiled as he put the money in a stack. “Who said anything about shopping for clothes? Nigga I want a boat.”
Cliff twisted his lips. “Man you can barely ride a damn bike,” shaking his head, Cliff threw up a hand gesture. “How the hell do you think you’re going to navigate a damn boat?”
“I ain’t said shit about steering no boat. I just want to own one so that I can take pictures with it and put it on Facebook,” Daryl laughed. “You know! So that I can look like those fake ass rappers.
