“Dammit, Ben! I should have never dragged you into this!” Isla cried, her voice quavering slightly as she paced through the living room. “That bastard really won’t rest until we’re destroyed, will he?"

"Wait a second now," Ben said softly. “You don’t know that Flint was responsible for the hack at all.”

“Oh no?” Isla stopped and whirled to fold her arms over her chest. She was fully dressed again after hearing about Ben’s latest troubles, the fire burning inside her visible in her eyes also.

“Just come and relax,” he begged her. “I have my best people on it, and they’ll get to the bottom of what’s happening. There’s no point in getting upset over it when we don’t even know for sure what’s happening.”

Isla blinked, wondering if Ben was really handling this as well as he seemed.

“How can you be so calm?” she demanded. “You’re cool as a cucumber. I’m freaking the hell out.”

He patted the sofa, and she begrudgingly ambled toward him, perching inches away from where he sat.

“I just know that we can’t do a thing about it right now,” he said quietly, reaching for her hand. “Didn’t we already establish this?”

Isla exhaled and shook her head.

“It has to be Flint,” she muttered. “It’s just the kind of thing he would do.”

“If it’s him, I’ll find out,” Ben promised. “And he’ll be dealt with accordingly.”

Isla’s head jerked up, her eyes narrowing slightly as she studied Ben’s face.

“What does that mean?” she asked. “What will you do to him?”

“I’ll cross that bridge if I come to it,” Ben replied in his nonchalant way. “Please, Isla, don’t get all worked up for me. You have enough to worry about for yourself.”

“Don’t remind me,” she grunted, shaking her head, and Ben chuckled.

“Look,” he said patiently. “Tomorrow, in the light of day, we’ll have more information and better rest. We’ll attack our issues with clearer heads, okay?”

Isla stared at him, a faint smile touching her lips.

“You’re really nothing like Flint,” she said before she could think about the words. To her relief, Ben laughed.

“Thank you!” he chuckled. “That might be the nicest compliment anyone has ever paid me.”

Isla rose and reached for her purse, causing Ben to cock his head to the side in confusion.

“Where are you going?” he asked, his eyebrows shooting up in surprise.

“You just said we’ll deal with this tomorrow,” she replied, her own brow furrowing. “I’m leaving you to get some rest.”

“No,” Ben said quietly. “Don’t go. Stay.”

Heat flooded Isla’s body, and she eyed him uncertainly.

“You want me to stay?” she asked, feeling her cheeks flush. Looking into his face, there was no question about his sincerity, but just because they had slept together, she didn’t want him to think that she would cling to him.

But he doesn’t feel that way at all, does he? She thought with wonder. He wants me here, and I want to be here.

She set her bag back where she had picked it up as Ben nodded.

“Yes,” he confirmed. “I want you to stay.”

“Then
