I cried during sex.

I didn’t even cry when I gave Zach Beech my virginity.

What the ever-loving fuck was that?

It had been like the first time that Archer and I had sex, as if my body had opened up and trusted him without reservation, except times ten.

No, times a hundred.

What. The. Fuck.

And I knew that he knew that I’d cried, because he’d cuddled me after and my cheeks had been wet. So fucking embarrassing.

But everything was fine. Just fine.

We were cool.

I’d practically forgotten that he’d implied he was broke and, well, human. I understood where he was coming from. Magic was real, and that was some heavy shit. Shit I still wasn’t entirely on board with, which made me realize even more why he’d been silent on the topic.

And as for the crying while fucking, we’d had completely normal, steamy-as-fuck sex twice this morning. No creepy crying.

All good.

Everything was fine.

Then why did I have this icky feeling in my gut?

I had such an icky feeling that I’d agreed to borrow Archer’s Range Rover to drive myself to school this morning, because the alternative involved him ferrying me around.

The unsettled feeling in my stomach wasn’t up for spending time together in a small enclosed space with him.

The ickiness was stupid. It wasn’t like I’d suddenly decided that I didn’t want to fuck him. More…the opposite?

My phone pinged with a text, which I ignored, because I was driving.

Driving Fido might not be a fully immersive experience like driving Betty, but texting and driving was still dangerous. I liked living, thank you very much.

When I arrived at school, I discovered that it had been Mia texting. She had an update for me.

Since I needed my head screwed on straight to teach, and I had three almost back-to-back classes today, I was pushing pause on that thought. I’d have to wait until this evening to get her news.

But since I wasn’t an unappreciative bitch, I texted back to explain my work situation and asked if we could chat this evening.

Her reply was a little scary: her news was best delivered in person. She asked me to pick a time and place.

After quickly checking that Taylor’s favorite boozy brunch place had evening hours, I invited Mia to dinner there this evening.

Now all I had to do was get through three classes, one of which was a three-hour seminar. Being an adjunct and subject to the scheduling whims of the department in exchange for substandard pay was awesome.

Normally I was just glad to have a job in my field, but today I was going to let my inner whiny bitch out to play.
