I DON’T KNOW HOW LONG we’ve walked. All I know is that I’m hot, sweaty, and miserable. And to make matters worse, we’re constantly under attack. Even now my males are facing yet another one of Hell’s creatures that burst from the wide magma river we’ve been following on our right. This one is a giant snake that’s easily hundreds of meters long and fifty feet wide. And he’s made from lava rock—like I can literally see fucking lava flowing beneath his scales. It would be cool, if it wasn’t so terrifying.

It hisses so loud the rock wall to our left shakes. A large piece of rock breaks and crashes down, sending shards flying at us. Wrath blocks me in time so I avoid any damage, but my mates aren’t as lucky. Branh is bleeding from a slice on his upper arm, Zander has taken a cut to the face, and Xavier is peppered in the back, though I can’t tell if he has any open wounds because of it or if his shirt offered him some protection.

“We need to attack from below and from above,” shouts Branh as he bares his teeth to the beast.

Without a word, Wrath tosses me to Aiden, who catches me just in time to save my feet from another unfortunate burning incident. Xavier dodges a spit attack of lava, because of course it’s not enough to have a massive rock snake. No, let’s have a massive and lava-spitting rock snake instead.

“Zander, with me!” Xavier shouts just as massive black wings explode from his back.

My mouth drops open in shock, and I can’t do anything but stare at the beautiful, feathered appendages sprouting from my mate’s back as he takes to the air with Zander close behind. I gasp upon seeing a stunning pair of golden wings on Zander’s back, and I can’t say whose are most beautiful, because they’re equaling striking.

“Do... Do all of you have wings?” I stutter as my eyes remain fixed to my two winged mates.

“Yup,” is all Sloth says.

Zander and Xavier coordinate an aerial attack on the beast’s eyes while Branh and Ryth attack its body from the ground. The snake thrashes around, spitting molten lava wildly, unsure of who to aim for. As a result, a spew of melted rock heads right for me and Aiden.

Sloth glides to the side with a wide yawn, barely dodging the hot magma. The searing heat against my back makes me squeak. Another loud hiss is echoed by a jarring and ground-shaking thud. I scream and bury my face in Sloth’s chest, who doesn’t so much as twitch.

I startle as a pair of hands reach under my arms and pull me from Aiden’s hold. “It’s over, love,” Xavier murmurs into my ear as he settles me around his waist once more.

Glancing up and over his shoulder, I see he’s right. The massive thud must have been the snake’s head dropping to the ground, because there it lies, half in the molten river it emerged from.
