How to use

For the most benefit, choose good quality dark chocolate, with at least 70 percent cocoa. Studies have used up to 31/2 ounces (100 g) per day with good effect, but you should balance your intake with your activity levels as chocolate is high in calories. Alternatively, have one to two cups of hot chocolate each day made with good quality cocoa powder.

DEVIL’S CLAW Harpagophytum procumbens. Also called: Grapple plant

use for ✓ Back and neck pain ✓ Chronic pain ✓ Osteoarthritis

SEEDS WITH LONG, swooping hooks and fruit with a spiny outer rind inspired this African plant’s English name. But it’s the roots and potato-like tubers that captivate herbalists. This endangered plant grows along the edges of the Kalahari Desert and was used for centuries in traditional remedies for digestion problems, pain and skin sores. Europeans discovered devil’s claw a century ago, using the dried root to ease heartburn and soothe pain and inflammation. Today, its widespread popularity as a herbal remedy raises concerns about the plant’s survival in the wild.
