Source of Insight: The Spirit

Before the day of Pentecost, not all people who followed God had the ability to speak directly to Him. Instead, God only spoke directly to certain priests and leaders. Everyone else had to communicate with God through these specific people.

Now everyone in Christ has the ability to directly communicate with God (see Eph. 3:12). This is exciting but can also be confusing, especially if you’re not familiar with this concept. Here are a few ideas that can help you in the process.

Free Up the Time: If you’re someone who already knows how to talk with God and hear His voice, I encourage you to focus on clearing some intentional time in your schedule to speak with Him about your true identity. It may look like doing a prayer time. It could look like spending extra time at a worship service. It may entail going on a hike. It may mean not talking on the phone or listening to music during your commute. Or it could involve journaling or some other activity that helps you create space to hear God’s voice. He’s always speaking, but sometimes you just need to tune your spiritual radio channels to the right signal.

Once you create space, pay attention to what God says. Instead of talking the whole time, be open to listening.
