Video games can be addictive. If your child plays excessive amounts of video games and has lost interest in school, sports, or other activities, it is time to take video game addiction seriously.

Establish a household rule where no video games are allowed during the week.

When you allow your child to play video games, have a strict time limit and make it clear that if they violate it the game will be taken away. When they do violate the rule, which they will, take the game away.

Watch for the warning signs. If your child’s grades suddenly drop, they lose interest in things, or they become easily irritated, an addiction problem is probably brewing.

Follow the rules. If a game is recommended for children ages twelve and older, don’t allow your underage child to play that game, regardless of what other parents allow. This is your child, not theirs.
