Kolt

I stormed around the living area of the penthouse hotel room we were in. I couldn’t sit still. Everything bothered me. The sounds of people talking, the women who flocked to us, wanting our bodies, our money, others who wanted the same, it was all crashing in on me. I felt like the walls were closing in on me, pressing on me so I couldn’t breathe.

Nothing was the same. Nothing had been the same since Madison disappeared from our lives. At first, the partying, the women helped, but now it was tiresome. It did nothing to bring me closer to her or to ease the pain of her going.

Even being in the band had lost its lustre. My dream, my only goal for all my life, the big brass ring, I’d had them all—still did—but they were tarnished without her. They were hollow, empty shells. And I could no longer pretend they filled me up.

“Would you sit down. You’re making me sick.”

I glared at Blaise. “Well, maybe if you hadn’t drunk so much on the plane, you wouldn’t be so hungover. Quit drinking and grow the fuck up.”

“I will when you do, asshole.”

“Woah, calm your tits. The two of you back to your own corners,” Gage told us as he wandered into the room. “We need to talk, and I can’t have you two fighting again.” He plopped his ass in the only empty chair, leaving me no choice but to sit on the couch beside Blaise.

I loved the guy. I really did. But lately we butted heads over everything. I’d say it was Blaise and his shitty attitude, but I knew I played a part in it. My attitude was just as shitty. When I got like this, I tended to fly off the handle with the simplest of things. Once, Liam ate the last cookie on a plate and I yelled and screamed at him, calling him lots of names. It didn’t matter that those cookies were one I refused to eat—who eats oatmeal raisin cookies with nuts in them—or that there was a whole batch of them in the cupboard.

Knowing I needed to make amends, I dropped onto the couch, squishing up against Blaise. “I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve that.”

He nodded and then wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “I’m sorry too. My drinking is out of control. I just…”

“I know. Me, too.” I leaned over and kissed him. It wasn’t something we did often and never when someone outside the four of us was around, but when we did, it meant something. It was our way of keeping Madison close.

“And that’s what I want to talk about.”

“Who? Madie?” Liam crossed his arms over his chest. “Haven’t we talked enough about her? She’s gone. She left us, breaking us because she didn’t love us enough to stay with us. End of story.”

“Yes, Mads. And no, we haven’t talked enough about her.” Gage met each of our gazes, showing how serious he was about this. “We’re falling apart.”

“Yeah, because she’s not here.
