Most mobile portable media players are “temporary” storage devices that contain a copy of content that is copied from some other device owned by the consumer such as a computer. Since the player can be lost or damaged, it is wise to retain the “original” copy on a static device that stays in the home of the user where it is hopefully less subject to damage and loss.

The MP3/voice recorder player performs noise reduction, speech compression, and MP3 stereo recording/playback at all rates and options required by the MPEG/speech compression standards. The following is a description of the components for such a device. The digital signal processor (DSP) performs the audio encode functions and executes post-processing algorithms like equalization and bass management and system-related tasks like file management and the user interface control.
