Chapter 24

XAVIER

All that glitters isn’t gold.

What was I thinking? Thinking with the wrong head again. What in the hell is wrong with me? Dré had warned me. Everything I knew instinctively was warning me, and I still went and called her up. Stupid. Was I really willing to lose everything for some ass?

In the past, I had joked about Pilar being a little off, but I now knew without a shadow of a doubt the woman was definitely psycho. All that shit about us being meant for each other, soul mates. Was she from another planet? Did the Martians land and drop her off? At first, I thought she was joking, but now, I think she believed all that shit. She was definitely living in her own little world. Psycho.

Sunday, I lounged around my house all day. Didn’t do a damn thing. I had talked to my baby Kendall earlier that morning and she appeared mellow, nice and relaxed. Going home did her good. She surprised me by telling me how much she wanted me and couldn’t wait to get home to prove it. That made my day. I worked hard Monday through Friday, so I enjoyed my weekends doing whatever I wanted to do, no commitments. I watched a couple of movies I had been meaning to check out, worked out like a crazy man in my home gym and enjoyed the luxury of walking around in my drawers, unshaven. Heaven.

On the weekends, I typically didn’t check my e-mail because the way I saw it, whatever someone wanted with me could wait until Monday morning. If my agent or editor needed me, they knew my digits and how to reach me. I was in for a big surprise when I logged on bright and early Monday morning. I literally had over one hundred e-mails from Psycho Pilar. I read a few and simply deleted the others, shaking my head. I didn’t know if I should pity her or hire a fulltime bodyguard.
