5. Influence of structural parameters’ change on separation performance and optimization of structural parameters

Separation efficiency and pressure drop are important indicators for evaluating the performance of a swirl filter.

For the swirl filter, the separation efficiency is one of the important indicators to evaluate its performance, it is the main factor describing the separation effect [9]. The solid particles separated by the cyclone are discharged from their underflow ports. Therefore, the separation efficiency can be defined as the percent removal of solid particles at the underflow port. The separation efficiency of a certain diameter particle can be calculated as follows:
