Chapter Ten

Amelia

Amelia had just gotten out of the shower when Wyatt arrived home, and they nearly collided in the hallway as she walked out of the bathroom.

“Oh, hey,” she greeted him. “I hope you don’t mind me grabbing a shower.”

“Not at all. I told you to make yourself at home here.”

Wyatt had said that, but she didn’t want him to think she was taking liberties and treating his house like a hotel.

“Did you see anything out there?”

He shook his head. “No, nothing at all. Either whoever it was has given up already and moved on to some other unsuspecting woman or we were both mistaken and there was no one following you, after all.”

Amelia suspected that might be true, but she didn’t tell Wyatt that because as soon as he believed the threat was gone, he was going to send her on her way again, and she hadn’t been there long enough for her to persuade him that they could be perfect together if only he gave them a chance. Perhaps she needed to be more cunning. It wasn’t as if she had all the time in the world. Maybe subtle just wouldn’t cut it. Maybe she needed to seduce him. Her dragon thoroughly approved of this plan.

As the thought came to her, Amelia noticed the way Wyatt’s eyes traveled down the length of her body and she realized she was standing half naked in front of him, the short towel that was wrapped around her barely protecting her modesty. And Wyatt was drinking her in like she was a tall glass of water. His intent gaze made lust soar through her body like wildfire. He must have realized that he was staring because he lifted his head to meet her gaze with an apologetic wince and while she held his gaze, she pulled on the towel a little to tug it loose before letting it fall to the ground.

“Oops,” she whispered. “My bad.”

Wyatt didn’t even bother trying to avert his eyes or pretend that he wasn’t checking her out, he stared lasciviously, taking in every naked inch of her before meeting her gaze again.

“What are you doing, Amelia?” he asked, his voice hushed and raspy in the silent hallway. His breaths were coming just as quickly as hers, and her heart was thudding in her chest as she stood before him, completely naked.

She stared at him for a long moment before saying innocently, “I don’t know what you mean. I’m not doing anything.”

Then she closed the distance between them and kissed him.

The second their lips touched, a low groan tore from his throat and he pulled her up against him, deepening the kiss.

“Nothing, huh?” he said against her lips.

She leaned back and met his gaze. It might not have been the right moment to say what was on her mind, but she needed to get it out anyway.

“If this one time is all I get with you, I’ll take it.”

An intense expression covered Wyatt’s face then he captured her lips roughly and kissed her long and hard, pushing his tongue into her mouth without apology.
