4.2 Experimental Setups for Characterizing a Tuneable Laser

In the setup shown in Fig. 4.1, two programmable optical devices, a tuneable laser and an optical multimeter, are connected to a personal computer (PC) or another programmable device that supports LabVIEW software and a general purpose interface bus (GPIB).

Both optical devices and the PC are equipped with GPIB ports . The PC as a controller device is responsible for analyzing the data received from both devices and sends necessary commands for controlling purposes.
