“I’ve got contacts that I can get working on this,” I offer, the upcoming fun time already racing through me.

Nora’s in danger, and I am fucking furious about it. I’ve finally found my mate, and hunters seem to think they can take her from me.

I’m pissed we didn’t meet sooner, especially since I’ve been watching her since she stepped foot into Oxley. The mysterious wolf who rolls into town and is super close to the Alpha, of course every eye within the city has been on her.

We’ve all had our theories on their relationship. Fuck, I’m part of a betting pool that’s trying to figure out how she knows Atticus.

There’s been guesses ranging from secret sibling—no idea how that one would work when we all know the previous Alpha only had two kids and they were both male—to his scorned mistress. I don’t think anyone guessed mate, which is kind of dumb now that we see them together.

But the rumour on the street has been that she can’t stand him, so fated mate was a guess nobody picked.

I wonder if it’s too late to change my guess. I could use those favours.

“That works,” Mal says, glancing at the clock again as if willing the time to go faster. I don’t know if he’s wanting the meeting to start with the pathetic ex-mate or if he’s wanting it over so he can go make amends with our girl.

“It does,” Orson echoes. “Whatever favours need cashed in, make sure they know it’s us doing it.”

I nod because as much as I can do a lot, having the King at my back will get me even further. It might be a blow to my pride knowing I can’t protect my mate alone, but, clearly, fate knew more than I did, and that’s why Nora has multiple mates.

“They’ve approached her more than once. It’s clear that they’re taunting her,” Kai says, his straight, thin eyebrows furrowing together. He’s pissed off, his taut tone would send tingles down a weaker man’s spine. “That’s not something a single circuit would do.”

“No, it’s not,” Atticus says, sighing. “The city is locked down the best it can be, but he still got through. So, we need patrols amping things up, and the pride on high alert. At the moment, I’m not keeping Nora on lockdown, but if we can’t keep the city protected, then that will change.”

“I don’t want that,” Orson says, looking sad.

“That’s how it will need to be,” Atticus says with a shrug. “I want the pride notified, so that they know to be on alert.”

“That seems like it’ll only spook the hunters, though,” I say with a frown.

“And if we let everyone continue going around unaware, they’re going to get hurt,” Atticus says. Whilst his words are kind of dismissive towards my opinion, his tone is not. He’s got to make the tough choices, and he’s not led us too wrong before. “I’m not saying we hold a press conference and let everyone know we’ve got issues with hunters.
