The students at Underworld University were rough and terrifying at times, but they had nothing on Pandemonium City College. Looking across the grass at their prey team, I realised what the most exclusive university meant.

The demons that ate my breakfast and tutored me were the top picks, the most well-bred. The ones with money and privilege.

Which meant the monsters sizing me up were an entirely different breed. They weren’t glamoured—hadn’t been glamoured when they arrived either, with their uniforms more like sashes than jerseys. Scraps of fabric hanging from shoulder to waist in violet and gold.

I swallowed hard, rubbing my sweaty hands on my pants.

Sure, I couldn’t die. But I could hurt.

Their runner smiled, showing rows and rows of thin, needle-like teeth, and I shuddered.

Dice nudged me with his elbow, pulling me out of my thoughts. “You good?”

I looked at him from the corner of my eye with dread coiling in my stomach. “Nope.”

How the fuck was I supposed to get past any of the creatures lining the opposite side of the field? I might be quick on my feet but I wasn’t a predator. I was just a girl.

No, I thought bitterly. You’re the prey.

He stepped in front of me, bending so that we could be face to face. ”Let us worry about them. You just need to run, treasure. Can you do that for me?”

I nodded tightly, setting my jaw as I looked past his massive frame to study the hulking forms of our opponents. Scales and ruffs of fur and claws and teeth.

My eyes flicked back to Dice. Not for the first time I wondered what kind of creature was lurking under the perfect human wrapping he presented to me. He smiled easily, his large hand finding my cheekbone for a soothing stroke of his thumb across my skin. “You can do this. I’ve never seen anyone run like you.”

“I can do this,” I repeated, my gaze hardening as I met his violet eyes. “I can do this.”

“That’s my girl,” he praised. “Let’s go win this thing.”

I bobbed my head, my eyes seeking out the rest of my teammates.

It wasn’t mandatory to glamour during the game, though I noticed Dice wasn’t the only one who continued to keep their non-threatening human skin.

Wrath on the other hand?

Glorious black wings had sprung from his back, the feathers shifting in the breeze as it swept through the arena. His honey-blonde hair now a murky shade of grey against creamy alabaster skin decorated in a tapestry of tattooed runes. He met my gaze, cocking a dark eyebrow. “What are you staring at?”

“I wasn’t,” I protested weakly, even as my eyes devoured every stupidly handsome plane of his face. His usual masculine beauty was heightened further by gently hollowed cheeks, leaving his high cheekbones impossibly more sculpted.

“You’re so full of yourself, man,” Dice called to the prince before pressing a swift kiss to my cheek and returning to his place at my back. “Like she would want anything to do with an asshole like you!”

Wrath scoffed, smoothing his hair.
