the records room

My mind and wolf refused to cooperate. I needed to focus on the task at hand, but all I could think about was Calia’s sweet scent and soft mewls as I fucked her on the dining room table. “I think I found it,” Kade said as he pulled a roll of delicate parchment off the shelf. He placed it with the others on the long oak table in the center of the room. “The date looks right.” He examined the faded numbers scribbled on one end.

“Thank the stars.” I abandoned my search on the other side of the room. It felt as if we had been searching these shelves all damn day. The massive log books and detailed records were well organized, but the maps and charts seemed to have just been stuck anywhere they might fit. I’d have to talk to the village scribe about organizing this room better.

Kade pushed a few books toward the edge of the table, as well as an empty well of ink and some loose papers.

“Grab that compass.” I pointed at the heavy golden object.

Kade picked it up, using it to weigh down one end of the map as he rolled it out. The aged paper fought the movement, centuries of storage making it want to curl inward. Then he planted his fist on the other end and leaned down.

The map showed the area around Casin and the mountains. But it was hundreds of years old, and the ink hadn’t aged well, making it difficult to see the details clearly.

“What does that say?” I placed my fingertip on the words scribbled just south of Casin.

Kade narrowed his eyes, then he slowly stood. “It says orc territory.” The lift in his voice told me he didn’t believe it either. “They really did have their own bit of reserved land.”

I crossed my arms, glaring down at the map. I appreciated being able to see the proof that the orcs were able to govern themselves in the past. But this didn’t really change much for me. This was still our land.

“I need to see the historical records on what happened.” I scratched the underside of my chin, getting a quick whiff of Calia’s dried slick on my fingers. It was so sweet and fresh. Fucking cotton blossoms. My cock twitched, and my wolf licked his long, pointed fangs.

“I have no intention of giving the land back.” I cleared my throat, trying like hell to focus. “But if the orcs were able to keep within their boundaries and live peacefully in these lands—”

“Then we need to figure out why they can’t anymore,” Kade finished my thought for me. “Maybe it really is as simple as needing fresh water.” He shrugged. “It’s been years since I’ve been up those mountains, and I don’t know how far up the ice caps sit.
