Chapter 27 – Recording Events

“OKAY,” JASON SAID. “Those are all of the questions that I have for now. We’re going to divide ourselves up throughout the house and see if we can’t stir things up a bit, and catch some hard evidence on tape. We’d like everyone to take a room and wait, watch, and listen for anything strange to happen.”

“Cool,” Kyle said.

“Linda, I’d like you to go and turn off all of the lights.” He handed her a flashlight. “Just so no one gets hurt moving around, we’d like you to use these flashlights, okay?” He opened a duffel bag full of flashlights and began handing them out to everyone else.

“Whatever you say,” Linda agreed. She turned on her flashlight and walked away.

“Bill, I’d like you to sit in the art studio. Are you up for that?”

Bill stood up and practically saluted. “Yes sir!”

“Okay, just sit tight in there, and all you need to do is wait and see if anything out of the ordinary happens. If it does, just call out to us, or come and get us.”

“You got it,” Bill said. He kissed Sarah on the forehead and walked through the kitchen into the art studio. He opened the door, walked inside, and sat down on Linda’s stool.

“Sarah, I’d like you to stay in the living room. Julie, you and Kelly can stay in the kitchen, alright?”

Julie nodded. She took Kelly’s hand and said, “Come on, dear.” Kelly took her hand and they walked into the kitchen together. They both sat down and scanned the room carefully.

Jason asked, “Kyle?” Kyle whipped his head around. His eyes were as wide as saucers. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m just spooked. I’m sorry, but that’s the truth.”

“If you would like to leave, there is no shame in that.”

He looked at his friends, gulped and said, “No, I’m spooked, but not that spooked.”

“Okay, would you feel comfortable sitting in the garage?”

“Hmmm…” Kyle replied.

“We can leave the door into the kitchen open. We just want to cover as much of the house as we can to make sure that if any activity happens someone witnesses it.”

“Yeah, I’m cool with the garage.” He switched on his flashlight and shone it under his chin. He smiled, walked into the garage and sat down on some furniture moving pads.

“Daniel,” Jason said.

Daniel replied, “Yes, yes, I know.” He chuckled. “Into the basement I go. I always get the basement.” He opened the cellar door and started to walk downstairs. He turned around and called out, “Kyle?”

“Yeah,” Kyle replied from the garage, his voice echoing throughout.

“Would you like to trade places?”

“I’ll pass, thanks,” Kyle replied, chuckling.

Daniel winked and said, “No one ever wants to trade with me, either.”

Jason and Aaron went upstairs. Tyler and Jimmy followed them slowly and cautiously. Frightened, Kelly climbed out of her own chair and up into Julie’s lap. Tyler and Jimmy stood on the landing and watched the investigators from a distance. Tyler looked around him. Jimmy gave Tyler a look of encouragement. The troops had finally arrived, it seemed.
