Taylor stopped walking and turned to Lilly, “You’re not damaged,” he said, an intensity in his voice she’d never heard before. “Don’t ever say that again. You’re a beautiful, intelligent woman who was hurt very badly by someone you should have been able to trust; but look at you, you didn’t just survive, you came out ahead.”

She turned away, knowing it was impossible for him to understand, “You can’t see it. I look okay on the outside, but inside……” she paused, then took a shuttering breath. “I’m numb, Taylor, I can’t even think about……Tom did things to me…… I don’t know if I’ll ever be able……”

Taylor turned her around, then carefully pulled her into his arms and held her until she stopped shaking, the familiar feeling of comfort slowly wrapping around her. “How do you do that?” she asked, with a sigh, pulling back to look up at him. “One second I feel terrible, and the next it feels like nothing is wrong.”

Taylor looked a little surprised, then a smile spread across his face, “I don’t think you’re as numb as you think you are,” he said, reaching out and stroking her cheek. “In fact, if you want my opinion, all you need is the right person to prove it to you.”

“Oh, really?” she asked, knowing that she had a choice to make. “I suppose you think that you’re that person.”

“More like hoping,” he said. “But there’s only one way to find out.”

When his lips came down on hers, a jolt of electricity shot through her making her body begin to hum, thrills of desire followed, awakening something deeper inside her, and she shivered. Taylor pulled her closer, a little growl escaping from his chest, before he gently parted her lips with his tongue, and deepened the kiss. Sliding her arms up around his neck, she pressed her body up against his, and was rewarded by his arms closing tightly around her.

She kissed him back then, hesitantly at first, then more hungrily when he growled again, and his hands began to roam over her body. When he finally pulled away with a groan, their chests were heaving, and Taylor’s eyes almost looked like they were glowing. Feeling her cheeks turn pink, shocked that she’d almost lost control so easily, she searched desperately for something to say.

“If that was numb, I can’t wait to see what comes next,” Taylor said, grinning down at her. “Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, how about that tour of the barn?”

“That’s it?” she asked. “That’s all you’re going to say?”

“Well, I could tell you that’s the best first kiss I’ve ever had,” he said. “I could also tell you that’s the last first kiss I ever plan to have, but I’m afraid that I’ll scare you, so yep, that’s it.”

She could only stare at him for a second, her brain trying to wrap itself around what he’d said, then couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face, enjoying the thrill that erupted from deep in her loins for the first time.
