Waking up in a bed of black satin sheets was either a nightmare or a sinful dream. I buried my face into the pillow, reluctant to wake up. My fingers glided over the cool, soft material as I inhaled. And just like that, I was wide awake, the scent of Ashor assaulting my senses.

My eyes popped open.

Shit.

I wasn’t dreaming or having a nightmare.

Nope.

I was in Ashor’s bed.

What did I do last night? The thought groaned in my head.

Throwing the sheet off me with one quick jerk, I stared down at myself and exhaled. I was still dressed. Well … as dressed as I was when I stumbled into his room last night. But that still didn’t answer how I ended up here of all places. Why wasn’t I in my bed? And where was Ashor?

My eyes flew to the other side of the bed and I exhaled. It was empty, and by the looks of it, never slept in, so just where did the demon spend his night?

I pressed a hand to my temples as my brain cells sloshed around. A dull ache pulsed in the front of my skull. A headache was definitely working its way into my future.

The fuzzy way my brain was reacting told me everything I needed to know.

Too much wine.

Ugh. I shoved strands of my crazy hair out of my face and slipped from Ashor’s bed. My feet padded over the floor tiles with haste, and I made it to my room with no run-ins, but as I was shutting my door, a mischievous laugh fluttered up from downstairs. I recognized that laugh.

Wiggling into a pair of tight jeans and a fresh shirt, I followed the voice with rushed movements, eager to see if it was indeed Cayden. The lack of conversation in my life lately made me eager to talk with someone who wasn’t continuously throwing me glares of infuriation or bedroom eyes, depending on the brooding demon’s mood.

A grin split over my lips when I rounded the corner and saw Cayden at the table with Ashor the pulsing in my head ebbing slightly. It felt like months since I’d seen another face, even if that handsome face belonged to a demon.

God, what was happening to me?

My smile slipped at the thought, but I continued to walk into the room and took the seat across from Cayden.

The blond demon’s lips formed a winning smile as his gaze landed on me. “Well, if it isn’t the lady of the hour. I heard you had a bit of excitement the other day. Ashor was just telling me about it.”

I kept my eyes on Cayden, pointedly ignoring Ashor. I wasn’t ready to face him after my behavior last night. “Let me guess, he is blaming the whole thing on me.”

Cayden lifted his glass into the air, tipping it toward me. “Naturally.” He had a carefree nature about him that I found relaxing, and my guard fell.

I rolled my eyes. “Does he ever stop being a dick?”

Cayden threw his head back and laughed.
