3. No independent measure of English proficiency was performed. Nevertheless, these native Spanish speakers were living, working, and/or completing graduate studies in the United States in an environment that required regular use of English. Additionally, all NS participants self-rated their English proficiency as either advanced or near-native.

4. Word-medial lateral tokens were also elicited but were excluded from analysis both in Solon (2017) and in the present study due to potential confounds related to language (English vs. Spanish), stress, and syllable position. Given that the present study is meant to show how a descriptive account can complement a quantitative one, I follow the procedures employed and examine the same data as Solon (2017).
