No animal in nature has fur that’s all lined up in perfect parallel strands, so your woodburning shouldn’t either. And thank goodness for this because burning fur would be much harder if every hair had to be perfect. Embrace the opportunity to let imperfection work for you. When you’re using a sharp-edged tool to create fur, vary your strokes! This means move your hand slightly differently with each stroke to create just a touch of variation so your fur looks natural. You’re reaching for a balance between varying your fur strokes and keeping with the intended direction of the fur. This can take practice, but with time, it will become second nature and your strokes will easily fall into a rhythm of organized randomness.
