Chapter Seven

‘None of your business,’ Sienna snapped, folding her arms over her chest.

‘Want me to go ask Erin?’

Her lips flattened. ‘He was my boyfriend who dumped me.’

Jason looked incredulous. ‘Why?’

Oh¸ no. They weren’t going there. She lifted her chin. ‘Why didn’t you acknowledge me that first day at Luxxor?’

His brow was still furrowed over the other question. ‘Why didn’t I what?’

‘You acted like you didn’t know me.’

He grumbled and ran a hand through his hair. ‘Because I was angry with Nina for arranging it. She was messing with me.’

‘What are you talking about?’

His grey gaze locked with hers, and she saw storms in the depths. ‘She got you for me.’

Sienna’s jaw dropped. ‘What?’

‘You heard me.’

She looked at him, dumbfounded, but he stood firm, chin thrust out and fists on his hips.

‘She saw how I looked at you at the Aquamarine event. She hired you so she could pair you with me. I didn’t like the meddling.’

Sienna took a small step back. Was that what had happened? Her mouth filled with distaste.

No, it couldn’t have been. She’d gone through weeks of training before he’d shown up. She’d been assigned to escort other men.

But Nina had contacted her right after the Aquamarine event. During it, in fact. Just after she’d had a heart-stopping encounter with an unbelievably sexy man. Jason, who now stood in her bedroom.

Disgust hit her. Was it the truth? Had she been used as a pawn?

‘That’s pretty conceited,’ she said flatly.

‘It’s the truth.’

Her brain kept turning over the facts. So what if it was true? Wasn’t that Nina’s job, to make good pairings? Even if she was just another cog in the wheel, she was in a much better situation than she’d been before. Nina had told her she’d hired her because she had the right background and she adapted well. Maybe that was the truth, too. Whatever the tactics behind it, her boss had seen a good match and had made it happen.

Oh, God. A good match? Her and the poster boy for difficultness?

Sienna rubbed her forehead.

There was nothing wrong with what Nina had done. She’d offered her a leg up and Sienna had accepted.

On the other hand, Luxxor had made its terms very clear. There was to be no sexual contact with clients – and here Jason was in her bedroom. He’d met her best friend, and she’d spent time with him off the clock.

Not for the first time, Sienna’s stomach churned. She tried not to think about where her paycheck came from. But right now? Looking at him in her bedroom, standing at the foot of her bed?

She shifted uncomfortably. ‘It’s all right, Jason. You can go home.’

‘Like hell I can,’ he muttered. He reached behind him, fisted his hand in his T-shirt and pulled it over his head.

She watched the whole thing in slow motion as the material pulled up over his belly and across his chest and finally ruffled his hair. When she saw the flex of muscles and the terrain of smooth skin, all rational thought left her head.
