Drive from me every love which is not for Thee, every desire which displeases Thee, every thought which does not tend towards Thee. My Jesus, my love, my treasure, my all, I am determined to please Thee alone. I will give pleasure only to Thee. Thou alone deserve all my heart; Thee alone will I love with all my heart.6

Then, closing the book, he would repeat these sentiments to Christ in his own words, attempting to formu late them with the greatest degree of sincerity and per sonal conviction. If it be possible, the ideal is to use the sentiments of the book as a starter for his own personal affections. But, at the very least, one may use the words of the saint as a model upon which to pattern his own conversation with Christ.

St. Teresa offers us some comfort by informing us that for many years she performed her meditation through the instrumentality of reading:
