Built by Edward Vettle of Pittsburgh, and possibly his brother Erwin Vettle, the Blue Streak instantly became a landmark. It was built using the new technology of under-track safety wheels, which enabled the Blue Streak to have sensationally steep drops. The drops are still considered steep for modern-day roller coasters. This photograph was taken the first week the Blue Streak was open.

The Blue Streak trackage was built using what was known as a shallow-track design, named so because the coaster’s track is split into upper and lower portions that are separated by cross supports, while most other coasters’ tracks are simply constructed with a thicker track resting on top of the cross supports. There were blue streaks on the sides of the cars.
