Fake It ‘Till You Make It

As we discussed with self-fulfilling prophecies, we will always find proof of what we believe. If you believe your own negative self-talk then you will create the very thing you say you don’t want. You, we, all of us are limited by what we believe is possible so stop the “I can’t… it won’t work… I’m not good enough… nothing good ever happens to me…” talk and any other self-limiting beliefs and open yourself to what IS possible. You don’t know unless you try and you can create positive self-fulfilling prophecies as easily as you create negative ones!

You must change your beliefs about what is possible. “I’m never going to be able to love myself” will create that very thing. “I’m going to learn to practise loving myself” will also create that very thing. Read those two sentences again because it’s a subtle difference linguistically between the two but a very big difference in the outcome. Your actions and behaviour follow your beliefs. It’s simple. Change your beliefs and you will change the outcome. Start to believe you are worthwhile, that you are deserving, that you can be happy even if you don’t really believe it deep down, tell yourself you do believe it. Tell yourself over and over again. It’s called “Fake It ‘Till You Make It”. It’s a real technique and it really works!

It works because your brain gives your body direction, so pretend you are lovable, you are kind, you are a good person, you deserve the good that life has to offer. Keep telling yourself this and watch what happens! You might be surprised! We often keep ourselves stuck because we don’t believe things are possible… but again, the truth is – you don’t know what’s possible. Everything I said would never happen to me and things that I never ever in a million years thought were possible are, in fact, happening in my life right now. How did I get here? I faked it until it became a reality.

I behaved as if I had confidence, I behaved as if I was capable, I behaved as if I was a nice person, and soon, I wasn’t “faking” it anymore. I believed it. And if I can do it… well then, what’s your excuse?

You don’t know what you’re capable of or what is possible. You only know what you believe is possible and those beliefs came from forces outside yourself and were imprinted a long time ago and then you go on through your life believing that they are true. They are only true if you make them true! Create a new truth! That’s what this work is about… opening to what’s possible.

I’m feeling the need to refer to an example of a client who has now become my friend. When I met her, as talented and as good at her job as she was, she hated herself. She disliked people, she told herself she was no good at social interaction, she
