It is known cholesterol biosynthesis is regulated homeostatically. This type of regulation employs negative feedback to counteract increased levels of hepatic free cholesterol . To model this, a function which captures the regulation of cholesterol synthesis by hepatic free cholesterol is needed. The equation I derived to represent this is similar to a Hill function and it is outlined in Eq. 4.1.

Where

(4.1)

HCSmax

Maximum rate of cholesterol synthesis

HFC

Hepatic free cholesterol

HCSt

Hepatic cholesterol synthesis threshold
