Chapter Seventeen

Drake

Drake ground his teeth as he waited for the coffee pot to finish brewing. He hadn’t been able to sleep well after his conversation with Zeke at the strip club. And on top of that, he had been forced to work the bar alone. Neither Zeke nor Knox could be found anywhere. It seemed like he was running the bar alone a lot these days, and it irritated the hell out of him.

The pot finished, so he poured himself a cup into his waiting mug and took a scolding sip, all the while wanting nothing more than to kick their asses. Deciding that he would do just that, he set the mug down and went in search of them. He stopped at Knox’s bedroom first, but he wasn’t in his bed.

Flexing his jaw, he turned toward Zeke’s bedroom and opened the door, ready to give him a piece of his mind. But before he could open his mouth, he spotted three figures in Zeke’s bed.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” Drake said loud enough that Knox, Amara, and Zeke startled awake.

Drake flipped on the lights. “You’re kidding me, right?”

He had just told Zeke the night before that he needed time to get his head right about the whole mate thing, and yet, he brought her here, to the one place he thought would be safe from her for a while. It pissed him off, though he wasn’t sure if it was because she had spent the night or if it was because a part of him was jealous that he hadn’t been included.

Last night, he realized that part of him did want this, but there were so many reasons why it would be a bad idea.

“Jesus,” Knox groaned, rubbing his eyes. “Learn to fucking knock, asshole. Some of us are trying to get some sleep here.”

Amara made an adorable sleepy noise and flopped back down against the pillows, draping her arm over her eyes to block out the light. Her hair was messy as if they’d literally been fucking all night, which only fueled his anger even more.

“Is this why you left me at the bar last night?” Drake growled between clenched teeth. “To get some ass?”

Knox grinned, rolling Amara onto her side so he could grip her ass hard. “Maybe. But it’s such a nice ass.”

Amara snorted.

“You can’t just skirt your responsibilities now that you’re mated.”

“Watch me,” Knox said simply.

Amara nudged Knox. “Be nice. He has a point. If I had known you guys had to work, I wouldn’t have come over.”

At least, one of them had a head on their shoulders and understood the meaning of responsibility. He wondered if she really meant it though or if she was lying to defuse the obviously tense situation.

“We have employees for a reason, Drake,” Zeke reminded him, speaking for the first time since he entered the room. His eyes were still closed, and he was still snuggled up against Amara’s side. “We don’t have to be there all night, every night.
