He was telling her.

It was a bitch.

Across Town

Riley and Delilah’s

Home

When Nikita and Heath rang the bell, Delilah peeked out the hole to see what was going on. As of late, they were all on guard.

They might be paranoid, but it was better safe than sorry when it came to living in Las Vegas.

When she opened the door, she held a gun in her hand just out of sight.

Just.

In.

Case.

“What’s going on?” Delilah asked, seeing that it was the good guys—so to speak. Greyson must have sent security there.

The only question?

Why?

It had to be bad if they were showing up at her door, looking this worried.

“You need to come with us,” Nikita stated. “You’re not safe here, so we’ve been instructed to collect you. We have to move you,” she stated, as they entered her home.

“I’m not safe? What’s going on?” she asked, her hand on her belly.

She was huge and wobbly.

Being in danger scared her.

Not for her.

For her child.

Heath didn’t mince words.

“Your husband was shot. You might be next,” Heath stated.

She gasped in shock.

“Riley! NO! I just spoke to Greyson. He didn’t mention anything!”

Nikita slapped her husband for being insensitive. You shouldn’t scare a person like that.

EVER.

“She’s pregnant! You don’t scare a pregnant woman, Heath! That’s all kinds of wrong!”

Delilah didn’t know what to think.

“I’m sorry,” Heath stated.

Delilah nearly had a stroke.

“That’s a mean joke, Heath!” she said, getting irritated that someone would do that.

“Well, he’s not joking,” Nikita stated. “He was at work, and one of Roch’s hired guns shot at him and Poppy. She saved him but he got shot in the leg.”

She gasped for the second time.

Oh, Jesus.

Here came the stroke.

AGAIN.

“Is he okay?”

“The wound is clean through and through, he’s getting a doctor checkup right now, so he’s good,” she stated.

She shook her head.

“He went to work and was fine. I just spoke to Greyson,” she stated. “He was at the police station.”

She explained.

“It happened as we were heading out. Didn’t you see the news?”

“NO! Clearly not! I would have driven my pregnant self over there!”

“We are here to take you, Delilah. He wants you brought there so you guys are safe together. Pack a bag for him, and I got a text…”

“What did it say?” she asked, as they followed her upstairs.

“That someone left his boxers at home. He needs those too,” Nikita stated, showing her what Poppy sent her.

Delilah calmed down, and she started laughing. If they were joking about his lack of boxers, then he was fine.

“I get handsy in the morning.”

Heath grinned.

“Nikita does too.”

She slapped him again.

“What did I do now, snookums?” he asked, rubbing his arm. “I wasn’t scaring her.”

She pointed at him.

“Nothing. I get handsy in the afternoon too.”

He winked.

Heath was down for that.

As they watched her pack, she glanced up.

“He’s going to be okay, right?” she asked, “I can’t lose Riley. Our baby needs him.”

She reassured her.

“He’s good.”

Delilah grabbed things all over the room. She shoved them into bags, and then she headed into the bathroom.
