Chapter Thirteen
Mason
My mind is spinning out of control. Ever since I caught Heaven from falling, I can't seem to sever the connection we made. I feel this overwhelming need to touch him all the time. I've never been like this with any of my previous partners. Even in high school, I was never really one for holding hands or cuddling, but with Heaven it just feels natural, and I want more of it. How can I feel this way about someone after such a short amount of time?
I just want to care for him, wrap him up in a big, cosy blanket, and keep him safe. What is wrong with me?
I need some fresh air. Showing him around town will do us both some good. I need to get a few last-minute gifts and the big Christmas store always has good things to pick up. I wasn't expecting to be home, so I was going to give mom her gifts when I got back. I hope Heaven finds something to add to the tree. I could kick Mom sometimes for trying to meddle in my life, but when she hugged us both and said he was ours, something inside of me just agreed. I'm not sure how I'm going to convince Heaven, but I'm gonna try to show him that there is something there between us. Something special. I'm sure he feels it, too.
It only takes about twenty minutes for us to drive into town. It's not very big, but we have some pretty good shops. The big Christmas store is open all year round and they change the themes depending on the holiday. Halloween is fun, too, but they go all out for Christmas.
I find a parking spot that only locals know about, hidden around the back of the shops. The tourists that come to visit all use the parking lot, but I expect thatâll be full today since it's a weekend and so close to Christmas.
I get out of my chrome-blue Audi R8 coupe and head around the passenger side to open the door for Heaven.
âWhy thank you, sir,â he quips, blue eyes sparkling. âNice ride, by the way.â
âShe's a beauty, right? I treated myself to her.â
âShe's absolutely stunning. I love the colour,â he blushes. I hold my hand out to him as if itâs the most natural thing in the world.
âCome on. I'll show you around.â He takes it and tangles his fingers with mine. Jeez, even they fit so well in my hand. I walk him around, showing him all the shops we have and then we head over to the Christmas store. As we walk up to the entrance, a small gasp escapes Heavenâs lips.
âIt's something, right?â I chuckle, and my heart beats faster, his excitement kick-starting my own. Heâs fucking breathtaking, eyes all wide, mouth slightly agape, cheeks flushed. Thereâs this innocence about him I havenât recognised in myself for a long time. Itâs in the awestruck way he sees and experiences things for the very first time.
