Angie raised her head as a soft tapping drew her attention away from the computer screen.
Holding a small rectangular box, Isabel smiled in the office doorway. âMay I come in?â
Angie stood and gestured toward one of the chairs facing her desk. âPlease. Have a seat.â
Isabel sat in one chair, and Angie stepped out from behind her desk and took the other.
An eager curiosity painted Isabelâs face. âSo, how did this morning go in third grade?â
Angie took a deep breath. No matter what she said, her words would not do this morning justice. âWonderful. I loved it. We worked on cursive. Then we read aloud and narrated. We took a walk, and they completed their nature studies.â She picked up the green nature notebook from her desk, opened it to todayâs watercolor painting, and held it out to Isabel. âMy attempt at goldenrod.â
Isabel smiled. ââEducation is a life.â And youâve become a lifelong learner.â She placed the notebook on the table between the chairs and handed Angie the box. âFor you.â
Angie lifted the lid and drew back the tissue paper. A brass nameplate read, âAngela Taylor, Assistant Principal.â The letters blurred.
Isabel rested a hand on Angieâs shoulder. âWeâre so glad God brought you here.â
Angie brushed away the tears. âI am, too. More than youâll ever know.â
Isabel took the box back and set it on the corner of Angieâs desk. âIâll have Adam hang this over the holiday.â She grasped Angieâs hands and squeezed them. âSpeaking of which, he tells me youâll be sharing Thanksgiving with us.â
âI hope itâs not too late to RSVP. I had a change of plans.â
âNot at all. Weâll eat about two, so come any time after noon. And no need to bring anything other than yourself.â She squeezed Angieâs hand. âIâm glad youâre joining us. It means a lot toââ
A tap sounded, and they turned. Megan stood in the doorway holding a gym bag. She nodded toward the nameplate and grinned at Isabel. âDid she like it?â
âShe certainly did.â Isabel stood and smiled. âWell, donât let me make you girls late for water aerobics.â
Angie stood and hugged the principal. âThanks again, Isabel.â

Todayâs number of participants was less than previous sessions. Probably due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Angie dropped her money into the basket and then eased into the pool behind Megan.
Ruth read from Psalm 106. As she prayed, the words of the psalm breathed within Angieâs heart. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
At times in her life, when sheâd questioned her Fatherâs love, Heâd always assured her with more than she could have imagined. Like now. This job. These new friends. The blessing of this new life. More than she could have imagined. Tears filled her eyes and she slipped under the water and wet her face to hide them.
Ruth turned on the music, and the class began the warm-up. A splash sounded far behind her and Angie turned. Adam skimmed across the water.
Megan scooted toward her. âMaybe youâd rather forego the aerobics and just swim laps today.
