Chapter Fifteen – Having Cocktails

I sat at the bar of the restaurant Kincaid’s when Agent Zachary and Malik walked in. She was all smiles and so was Malik. Seeing this guy Malik for the first time in broad daylight was quite surprising. Mr. Carter stood at a modest height for a man. His build was quite impressive. I could definitely tell that he worked out. But what caught my eye was his jewelry collection. In my mind a strip club owner and especially one who's related to a couple of notorious gangsters, would wear a lot of flashy jewelry. The guys in the rap videos wore some very expensive diamond jewelry, so I would imagine that a black club owner would mimic their behavior. Sorry to say I was wrong. Malik had on a gold, presidential Rolex watch and one diamond and gold pinky ring. It was nothing extravagant. But everyone that saw him knew he lived well.

The restaurant's host escorted them both to their table. I watched him while he watched Agent Zachary's ass switch from side to side. There was no doubt what he had on his mind. After the host handed them both menus he left them alone to look over their menus.

Not too long after the host left, a waiter greeted them and took their drink orders. When he returned he had a glass of Chardonnay and a couple shots of Grand Marnier in a wine glass. Halfway through their cocktails the waiter brought them back their meals. I noticed that Agent Zachary had shrimp tossed in pasta while Malik had a grilled chicken breast with some brown sauce poured over it and a side of yellow rice. Both of their meals looked great. So, while they were eating away, Malik got a call on his cell phone. He excused himself from the table and walked out of the restaurant and into the mall. The moment he went out of sight, I looked back at Agent Zachary. She returned the look and hunched her shoulders like she didn't know what was going on. She and I sat in our seats and waited patiently for his return.

One minute passed. Then two minutes passed. And then five minutes passed. And there was still no Malik. I was very curious to see what was taking him so fucking long to get back to the table with Agent Zachary. I paid the bartender for my tab and then I slid off the barstool. As soon as I exited the restaurant I saw Malik take a small plastic bag from a young guy who looked to be every bit of 19-years-old, if not younger and walked off. I wanted so desperately to know what was in the bag but I wasn’t there to build a drug case against Malik. I was only interested in getting information that could possibly help me find Lynise. Everything else was secondary.

Malik passed me on his way back into the restaurant. I, on the other hand, was interested in seeing where that young guy was going.
