Chapter 9

Chanel turned around on her side to wrap her arms around her boyfriend.

“Damn, baby, watch your hands. I told you my body was still sore,” he whined.

“I’m sorry. I still think you should have made a police report about the robbery. I just really hate how those criminals did you.”

He was tired of her talking about the shit. There wasn’t even a robbery for real. He just got his ass beat for playing that tough-guy role.

“It’s okay, baby. Just stop talking about the shit. Now get some sleep so you can get up on time for church in the morning.”

He was about to get his revenge and have the last laugh. Leaving it all up to him by the end of the summer, every member of the Detroit Brick Boyz was gonna be dead.

Erica got up early to get ready for church. Even though she had been at Pierre’s house for the whole weekend, she still was going to attend church. She was still scared to disappoint her dad.

“Ay, where you about to go?” Pierre asked, rolling over.

“Baby, it’s Sunday. You already know that means I’m going to church. You wanna go with me?”

“Damn, I thought you loved a nigga.”

Erica giggled, “I do love you. What are you talking about?”

“You know if I step in the church, I’m burning the fuck up and going straight to hell. Without passing Go and collecting my two hundred dollars.”

Erica walked over toward the bed and sat down next to him. “I wish you’d stop saying crazy stuff like that. The Lord forgives those who ask for His forgiveness.”

“I haven’t asked for forgiveness, and I’m not sure if I’m done committing sins yet.”

Erica gave him a weird look. Sometimes she hated the stuff that came out of his mouth, but he was as real as it got.

Knowing that the look that she gave him only meant that she wasn’t happy, he tried to retract his words. “It’s just not for me, baby, but you go ahead and have fun. Say a prayer for me. You not taking your ride today?” he asked, noticing her keys on the dresser.

“I told Nicole to come pick me up for church.”

Pierre sat up in the bed. “I bought you that car so you wouldn’t have to ask anybody for a ride. Take your car, E.”

Erica stood by the dresser, shaking her head. The truth was that she was scared of what her dad would say seeing the fancy car.

Pierre thought about why she wouldn’t want to drive her car, and then it hit him. It was all about her daddy.

“Look, don’t even worry about your daddy. Soon enough he’s gonna find out about me anyway. You gotta learn to live for yourself,” Pierre said, trying to talk some sense into her.

Erica picked up her phone from the dresser and texted Nicole, telling her that she was gonna drive herself to church. Pierre got up from the bed and gave her a hug before giving her another kiss.
