Chapter Nineteen

Sammy Black Jr. sat back and watched as a cloud of dust trailed behind the approaching vehicle. The unmarked car pulled alongside the black SUV with tinted windows in the open dirt field, facing the opposite direction. Neiko rolled down his window but kept the air conditioner blowing.

The back window of the SUV slid down. “Nice weather we’re having.” Sammy Black Jr. nodded.

“Too fucking hot, ya ask me,” Neiko replied.

Sammy chuckled. “Yeah, it is,” Sammy agreed. “So, what was it you couldn’t tell me over the phone?” Sammy Black’s tone came across as anxious. “What you got for me?”

Neiko answered his question by extending a piece of paper out of the driver’s window. Sammy Black reached out and grabbed hold of the piece of paper. He unfolded the white sheet and peered at the writing on it. He stared at the numbers and words for a few more seconds then directed his attention to Neiko Bellini. “Is this what I think it is?” Sammy Black asked.

“I aim to please.” Neiko Bellini beamed.

“This will never be forgotten.” Sammy Black waved the white piece of paper in the air.

It had been over a week since he had heard from Neiko Bellini and was starting to get worried. The trail had seemed to become cold but Neiko Bellini had just turned the heat back on. Sammy Black Jr. flashed Neiko Bellini the Cheshire cat smile to show just how much the information he had handed him meant.

Neiko Bellini nodded and winked. He then made a saluting gesture at Sammy Black Jr. before peeling off in his unmarked car. Sammy Black Jr. rolled up his window to avoid the dirt residue from Neiko Bellini’s unmarked car invading the back seat of the SUV.

“Drive!” he instructed. The driver did as he was told.

Sammy Black Jr. pulled out his cell phone. The call was answered on the first ring. “I got something for you. Take this address down.” Sammy recited the address on the piece of paper then abruptly hung up. He ripped the white piece of paper up into as many little pieces as he could and cracked the SUV’s window. He let the small pieces of paper blow out of his hand and fly into the wind. Time is running out for you two. He leaned back, propped his elbow up on the armrest, and peered out the SUV’s window. Yeah, time is running out. He repeated his thought as the SUV floated through the open dirt field.
