“Did you leave any food at the buffet for the rest of us?” Stacy asked Cassandra while looking over at her plate that was piled high with food.
Cassandra rubbed her now noticeable belly. “I’m eating for two,” she stated with a smile.
“Looks more like you’re eating for five,” Damian added with a grin. He sat next to her at the table. They were in one of the restaurants in Jewel Resorts. With schools closed for a break, Cassandra was finally able to treat him to lunch as she’d promised. Any animosity he’d had toward her because of the way he’d found out she was pregnant with Marco’s baby – was long gone. Even if he wasn’t down for dating a pregnant woman, they could still be friends. He found her to be a really nice person.
“Whatever!” Cassandra snapped. Not being able to wait for Stacy and Veronica to get their food, she said a quick grace and picked up her fork to begin eating.
Veronica and Stacy got up from the table and made their way toward the long buffet line.
Damian dove into his food as well. “How do you like your admin job at the school?”
She covered her mouth full of food and swallowed. “It’s been good. I like being able to get off at three-thirty.” What she really wanted to say was that she missed working for Marco – but that wasn’t a topic to discuss with Damian.
“Yeah, working in education does have its perks.”
They continued to eat and chat amicably.
Moments later Damian reached over for his glass of soda. He suddenly felt eyes boring into him. He looked up and noticed Marco a few feet away, talking to a man dressed in a chef’s uniform. But Marco’s attention was solely on Damian and Cassandra’s table. Unaware, Cassandra continued to eat.
“I really appreciate you taking me out for lunch,” Damian said, scooting his chair closer to hers. He leaned in and kissed her on the cheek, inches away from her mouth. Payback’s a bitch! He and Cassandra were good, but he had score to settle with Marco.
Caught off guard, Cassandra turned her head to look at him. She still wasn’t aware of Marco’s presence. She frowned, then smiled. “You’re welcome!” She genuinely wanted to make amends for the way he found out she was pregnant. He was a cool dude in her opinion.
Marco’s hands clenched instantly. He was there meeting with the chef, discussing doing some decorative tile work in the kitchen. The last thing he’d expected was to see his woman being chummy with her ex. His blood pressure rose to violent levels.
He was standing at their table within seconds. He yanked Damian by the arm, pulling him out of the seat. “Put your lips on her again and I will snatch them off of your face,” he gritted through his teeth. And he really wanted to do just that – but he didn’t want to make too big of a scene.
Damian smirked while straightening his shirt. The look on his face only pissed Marco off further.
