This process resembles the creation of a ceramic vessel. A skilled potter begins with soft clay, and manipulates it to the desired shape and function. It is then fired to 1400 degrees. A glass-forming glaze is then applied, then more heat. This time, it is fired to over 2000 degrees to form a protective glass coating on the vessel. This process requires a great deal of expertise to form the vessel and a special mixture of ingredients to form the glaze. After many hours in the high heat, and after a slow cooling and curing process, a beautiful work of art emerges.
