All of this means that Affix Lowering/Affix Hopping will apply to the tense affix in (98) on the TP cycle – i.e. at the point where we have already processed VP and NEGP, and are now processing TP. The structure which the PF component can ‘see’ on the TP cycle is (100) below:

(100) [TP I [T Af] [NEGP not [NEG ø] [VP [V care] for her]]]

At this point, we might expect Affix Hopping to apply to lower the tense affix in T onto the verb care. There are two possible ways in which we could seek to achieve this. One is by lowering the affix directly from T onto V as in (101) below:
