At around 2PM, Devon shows up at my office. I am surprised by his visit, because of his behavior last night, and also because of the fact that I had already dismissed him as my potential savior. He has a brown envelope in his hands, not unlike the envelope with the pictures that I received. I ignore this, and walk towards my office, Devon in tow.

“Have you got any news for me?” I ask him, deliberately avoiding the elephant in the room.

“Nothing yet, but I have something else to show you.” He speaks like the cat that certainly got the cream, and as though what he is about to show me will make my life a whole lot better.

He takes pictures out of the envelope, and puts them on my desk. I notice Charles first in a few of them, and then I see that he is with a woman. They aren’t kissing, or making love, but they certainly look a little more intimate than I would deem appropriate.

I look at the pictures for the longest time, and as I feel the wind coming out of me, I take a seat behind my desk. What is this? Where did Devon get these pictures? When were they taken? A million other questions fill my head but none of them leave my mouth.

“Where did you get these?” I ask him, really wanting to know, and deliberately avoiding the obvious question, who is this other woman.

“Does that matter? I just think it is time for you to know who you’re really involved with. He will never love you. He will never fully accept you. You will never be accepted by these people.” I am not sure who he is trying to convince though, me or him.

“I think it would be better if you left.” I don’t look up at Devon, and I just hear him close the door behind himself. He is obviously leaving me to process what he has just showed me, hoping beyond hope that I will get the picture.

I do, thinking that I should perhaps call Charles, to discuss this situation. But then I think of how Charles responded to seeing me with Devon, and think that it could have been because he knew that Devon was on to him. For a moment, I am not sure what to do, and so I just look at the pictures again.

Then an idea comes to mind.

I call Will, hoping that he is not too loyal to Charles so as not to let him know what I need him to do for me. But I can think of nobody else. There is nobody else that I can turn to in all of Tennessee with this problem. Will agrees to come by immediately.

I hand him the pictures, and after asking him to keep this from Charles, I ask him to find out who the woman is, and to find out if I have anything to worry about. Will looks at me, and seems to be bothered by something.
